prayer for rains

 

शम्भो मुञ्च पयोददन्तिपृतना हय्याभवेगोत्कटाः क्रोशन्त्या धरणीभुवोऽपि वदने गङ्गाझरीमाशु च । पुत्रागमनमहोत्सवात्तु पुरतो लम्बोदरस्य प्रिये सिक्त्वा तापितभूतलं कुरु शिवे श्यामोपकण्ठं द्रुतम् ॥

శమ్భో ముఞ్చ పయోదదన్తిపృతనా హయ్యాభవేగోత్కటాః క్రోశన్త్యా ధరణీభువోఽపి వదనే గఙ్గాఝరీమాశు చ । పుత్రాగమనమహోత్సవాత్తు పురతో లమ్బోదరస్య ప్రియే సిక్త్వా తాపితభూతలం కురు శివే శ్యామోపకణ్ఠం ద్రుతమ్ ॥

"O Lord Shambhu, unleash the legions of dark clouds storming forward like charging steeds (aśvāḥ) and rumbling like mighty rutting elephants (danti / kari)!

Pour the rushing cataracts of Mother Ganga straight into the parched, pleading mouth of Mother Earth!

O Auspicious Mother Parvati, well before the arrival festival of your beloved son Lambodara (Ganesha) begins, drench this burning soil with pouring rains and clothe the scorched plains in fresh, vibrant green!"
